Fundraising (of Michael G. Lander)
Participating in fundraising efforts has become a bigger part of my life since I took up cycling in 2007 and in 2012 I created my Memphis Cycling (http://memphiscyclist.com/) as a way to give back to the Memphis community. Doing things for others is something that has always been very important to me for most of my life and it is for that reason that I like to participate in running and cycling fundraising events.
Since 2007, I have been involved with cycling-related, charitable fundraising events for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life," St Jude Children's Research Hospital, and the Al Chymia Shriners Hospital for Children. Altogether, with all of the generous support that I have received from others, I have raised over $10,000 for these and for other causes. |
In 2012, I also started running for charity and participated in a 5K run, hosted by Cafe Ole, on 29 September to benefit the Ronald McDonald House and a 5k "Meowathon" on 17 November for The House of Mews, which is a nonprofit, volunteer-run, cat sanctuary and feline rescue agency, located in Cooper-Young in Memphis.
The next scheduled that I will be doing is the 2016 FedEx Rock-n-Roll MS-150 bike ride on 10-11 September 2016 that will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Here is a link to my webpage: http://tinyurl.com/2016MS150-michael-lander. After that I will be doing my third St. Jude 24-Hour Team Relay bike ride to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital on 21-22 October 2016. Here is a link to my webpage for it: http://fundraising.stjude.org/site/TR/Ride/Ride?px=2821396&pg=personal&fr_id=58779. I have set a goal of raising $200 for this cause and hope to get small businesses to sponsor me. Here is a letter that I will be using to solicit donations:

In the year ahead, I hope to be involved with at least a half a dozen or more other charitable fundraising events and to continue doing being a part of them for as long as I possibly can. It is my small way to make this world a little better and brighter for everyone.
